Considering a new career often comes with the question, how much will training cost? In past years, that could mean tens of thousands for a master’s degree or even a hot certificate program.
But good news! Education is going nano, Newsweek reports. Udacity, a four-year-old startup run by the former Google exec, offers classes online for a $200 per month, with programs taking around 5 months to complete. The company offers to give you back half that money upon completion. Audacity proposes to train you up in valuable tech skills like mobile programming, data analysis and web development. The New York Times talks to grads who have secured jobs after such minimal investments.
But programs like this can have a short shelf life, so getting a job will have to happen in a short window of time after the training, before such skill sets become outdated. Like anything these days, the career change will have to happen faster, and the job seeker will have to be nimble, ready to get to work fast. But sometimes that’s just what you need.
