Career Timer Going Off? Time to Explore
TGIF! You made it through another week. Phew.
It’s been a long month, hasn’t it? But here we are, coming up on Thanksgiving already. A time for gathering with loved ones and turkey, lots of turkey.
I always buy a turkey with a built-in timer. They beed them that way now, right? Wouldn’t it be nice if our careers came with one?
So many of us soldier through the work weeks and never take time to reassess. Wouldn’t it be nice for a timer to go off to let you know when to take stock?
Ding! Ding!
The holidays, and especially the New Year, sometimes serve as a timer for us, and sometimes that timer goes off like a fire alarm. We’re surrounded by people we might not have seen in a while, asking for updates on our lives. That includes, for better or worse, our career updates. “How are things with the boss? Last time we talked, you were out of there.” Etc., etc.
It can kick up a lot of dust in your mind, and leave you feeling a little out of it.
If it happens to you this holiday season, and you start to wonder what else is out there, I’ve posted some of my favorite ways to explore careers when you’re not just out of school on my blog this month.
And here’s a list of my favorite career movies, if you’re feeling like kicking back after you feast.
